TRUTH or BARE? ASIAN MALE CELEBRITIES on NUDITY. "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better."

Peekaboo, baby.

Where did I hear this perk-up liner: “IF YOU HAVE A NICE ASS, FLAUNT IT”?

This Article explores the insights of a select group of ASIAN MALE CELEBRITIES who bared their ASSES for ART's sake, fighting for our attention.
Shall we say, "Put your best butt forward"?

It's hard to believe how much the world has transformed in the past decade.

THESE DAYS, even men are at it,

giving the female gender a competitive run for their money.

JANE AUSTEN was the author of the much-read literature-novel SENSE and SENSIBILITY. To borrow a pun from her, we are now touching on the subject of SEX and SEXUALITY or the WAR of the GENDERS.

In this time and age, it is common for men to strive to oust the women in the game of sex appeal and body beautiful.

15 years ago, it was deemed “sissy-ish” for men to adorn make-up and go for facials, but how time changes everything !

For the men, competition takes the form of the popular man-versus-female song “Anything you can do, I can do better !”

Look at the male pageants all over Asia where men dare strut the catwork displaying their well oiled and toned bodies in skimpy bathing trunks to conceal their precious “jewels”.

If you ask them to sashay butt-naked, I am sure there will be many who will be more than willing to oblige for the price of fame and fortune.

As always, the truth prevails when reality bites.

“THE GANGSTER” (ANTAPAL) Thai Film Review. Where GANGSTERISM is spelled as one big ugly WORD.

“THE GANGSTER” (ANTAPAL) PRESS PREVIEW

The tactic of “every which way but loose” is applicable here.

This one tells you all about THE (ANTAPAL) GANGSTER.

And it’s the latest commercial add-on to the regional list of gangster films, many of which are notable duds.

Over the years we have witnessed a deluge of  so many menacing titles flooding the market, in the genre of the Indian gangster, Korean gangster, Malaysian gangster, Pinoy gangster, Singapore gangster, Indonesian gangster and the awesome Hong Kong gangster. The merry list goes on.

Now comes the latest Thai export by the name of THE (ANTAPAL) GANGSTER.

Award winning director KONGKIAT KOMSIRI takes over the helm and leads us through the precarious underbelly of Bangkok’s gangland in this hazy rock-around-the-clock days of the 1950’s in his version.

KONGKIAT, who in recent years had opened our eyes to his body of work such as the critically acclaimed “Muay Thai Chaiya” has affirmed that ANTAPAL GANGSTER offers a real-life portrayal of the Bangkok triads. You decide.

He assures that this is not a remake of NONZEE’s “YOUNG GANGSTERS”, a successful vintage film about young hoodlums. Celluloid gangsterism generates big time business so film makers keep on making them.

YOUNG GANGSTERS (1997) was a feature that dogged the JOHN WOO-style heroic bloodshed directed by NONZEE NIMIBUTR.

“It may be cool to observe gangsters attired in slick hair and gear, fighting like heroes but I think that’s very superficial. I am giving the story more depth by making  the (ANTAPAL GANGSTER) more true to life,” KONGKIAT expounds proudly.

He indulges in his whim that everyone in the movie, from the lead actors to the supporting cast must be styled to look undesirably ugly, so as to blend in with the depressing chaotic background.

Bad people must necessarily be ugly?

It’s obvious that the 1997 Thai flick directed by NONZEE called “YOUNG GANGSTERS” was afar more arresting, with a stellar cast of fine looking young actors.

They’d have been nearing their 40s by now.

THE ANTAPAL GANGSTER takes you through two generations of gangsters, starting in the 1950’s with Jod (KRISSADA SUKSOL CLAP) and Dang (SOMCHAI KHEMKLAD) who had been imprisoned when there was a nationwide crackdown on mafia.

Upon their release, Jod and buddy Dang had no choice but to return to their familiar mobster trade.

They slave for the ruthless mafia, checking insipid bars and running protection rackets.

They have two ardent followers, Thong  (SAKARIN SUTHAMSAMAI) and Piak (KRISADA SUPARPPROM), who hero worship them, but these newcomers have lofty ideals.

But soon Jod re-examines his life in the light of the harsh reality of being a gangster.

Violence does not guarantee respect, and the police are out to make their lives miserable.

However the young hoodlums Thong and Piak shared a different perception, lured by easy money.

Time does not stand still and naturally age catches up.

Bangkok changes, the environment changes, rules change, and whether you like it or not, everybody’d have to come to terms with their lot.

THE GANGSTER (ANTAPAL) has a tone that is deliriously dark, wild, gory, taut and entertaining.

And the film director exacted a compelling performance from KRISSADA SUKSOL CLAP in the role of Jod.

Go watch it if you an avid follower of  the THAI cinema.

SURVIVORS - the Feature Film

"BLOOD BROTHERS" STORY 1 of 4
(How It All Started)

HANZ and ANH are two impoverished orphans who live amid the slums in Ho Chi Minh City.

Fate brings them together, life has been tough and although they don’t have much, they are always the best of friends.

In ANH’s eyes, HANZ has always been the protective older brother he never had.

Ultimately they become blood brothers.

To survive in the shady alleyways of Ho Chi Minh, HANZ begin mixing with the triads, starting first with petty thefts, later progressing into more serious crimes.

Although disapproving at first, ANH slowly but surely starts joining HANZ in his pursuits.

Deep inside, ANH has always envisioned the dream of leading a simple life away from crime, together with HANZ and his new found girlfriend.

The two get into a violent dispute with the local gang after a collaborated robbery attempt goes wrong, in which HANTZ and ANH accidentally lose the loot.

ANH is captured and held at gun point by the gang’s boss. Unable to produce the loot from the robbery, ANH is mercilously shot dead right before HANZ’s eyes.

HANZ manages to escape, but his desire for revenge is quelled by ANH’s last wish for HANZ to go straight. ANH’s girlfriend persuaded HANZ to leave Vietnam and lead a new life.

Unfortunately, HANZ discovers that the gang boss TIM has boarded the same flight bound for KL with one of his henchmen.

His thirst for vengeance returns, and he resolves to take TIM’s life while he is on board the plane.

His assassination attempt fails however, and HANZ ends up hijacking the plane.

Amid the scramble and chaos and a bid to gain control of the cockpit, HANZ starts a chain of events that leads to the plane losing complete control and nosediving downwards towards the open sea….

(PRINCIPAL CHARACTERS from the 3 OTHER STORIES are also on board. Their ROLES are narrated in FLASHBACK).

“TAKEN 2″ (2012) Movie Review. Will you be taken aback this time around?

“TAKEN 2″ PRESS PREVIEW

Rewind back to “TAKEN” (2008).

You’ll find that it is a French actioner produced by LUC BESSON where LIAM NEESON played a former government operative called Bryan Mills.

His daughter had been kidnapped by human traffickers whilst vacationing in Paris.

Now, hell knew no fury like a father enraged. So in retaliation, he went on a rampage, shooting, hacking, carjacking, slicing and dicing, whatever – in a frantic bid to save his beloved daughter.

Such a violent display of a father’s protective affection, but “TAKEN” (2008) did revive NEESON’s then sagging career and turned him around as an action superstar.

“TAKEN” (2008) was immensely successful, both critical and box-office, specially in Europe and the East.

Fast forward to “TAKEN 2″, the 2012 sequel, and let’s see whether you will be taken aback this time around.

A quick run-through on the movie synopsis:

Bryan Mills (LIAM NEESON) is a retired CIA operative, and is back for one last security job, this time in Istanbul.

He is reunited with his ex-wife Lenore (FAMKE JANSSEN) and daughter Kim (MAGGIE GRACE).

The family is holidaying in the Turkish capital, where danger lurks. He is yet to reckon with the wrath of the surviving Albanian relatives of those he slaughtered on his last quest to save his daughter from the sex trade.

The enemies vow vengeance and will stop at nothing to avenge the deaths of their loved ones.

“TAKEN 2″ is a follow-up film, and could have been a crackling, high energy thriller that delivers.

But the content of a mediocre script mars everything that could have made it an implosive actioner.

LIAM NEESON pitches a compelling performance, but there are too many plot holes.

The movie dogs the same formula as the 2008 original, but there’s something clearly missing this time and it is predictability.

Without doubt, Neeson is the film’s greatest asset, commanding authority as he heroically takes command of the predicaments, fighting his adversaries to protect his family.

But is this enough?

The scale of the story is just too confining for him to grow even more.

For die-hard fans of LIAM NEESON, this one is pure entertainment.
